OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY CENTER – TREATMENTS & EXERCISE | Forcemedic

WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY?

The aim of occupational therapy is to assess, maintain and develop the functional capacities of people of all ages suffering from musculoskeletal, neurological or psychological conditions. The most common conditions include back pain (e.g. cervical, dorsal and lumbar sprains), chronic pain associated with chronic conditions (e.g. arthrosis, fibromyalgia, headaches), musculoskeletal conditions (e.g. bursitis, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome), craniocerebral traumas and other conditions that can have an impact on people’s ability to perform everyday, work and leisure activities.

OUR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SERVICES

The occupational therapy services at Forcemedic’s six locations in Montreal include a functional capacity assessment that targets a person’s key activities, as well as treatment, such as therapeutic activities, work task simulations, effort retraining, pain management and preventive instruction (e.g. postural hygiene, ergonomics of environment and energy conservation).

Occupational therapy services can also include an ergonomics assessment at work or at home in order to recommend changes with regard to ergonomic posture and equipment adapted to facilitate the performance of tasks and minimize discomfort.

WORK REHABILITATION

At Forcemedic, our occupational therapists are trained and qualified to provide exceptional quality services in a stimulating environment.

The aim of work rehabilitation is to optimize an injured worker’s functional capacities with a view to ensuring a safe return to work. Occupational therapists assess the impact on the quality of cognitive, physical (e.g. disabilities, medical conditions) and psychological well-being that can affect performance following a return to work.

Occupational therapy assessment is also used to identify and modify obstacles found in the workplace in order to facilitate the injured worker’s performance.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY FOR ACUTE DISABILITY

Occupational therapy promotes increased functional capacity in people experiencing physical, cognitive or psychological difficulties as a result of neurological disorders following surgery, a workplace accident (CNESST) or a road accident (SAAQ).

Occupational therapy for acute disability favours the optimal recovery of clients through a customized therapeutic exercise program (e.g. pain management, exercises targeting a specific condition), which includes simulations of everyday tasks at home or at work, based on the client’s tolerance. One of the objectives of occupational therapy is to prevent risks that might lead to persistence, deterioration or a condition becoming chronic.
