MULTIDISCIPLINARY PHYSIOTHERAPY CLINIC (CNESST-CSST/SAAQ) | Forcemedic

FIRST-LINE TREATMENT

For CNESST and SAAQ cases, first-line treatment rehabilitation’s goal is to take care of your injury and manage your condition in acute to subacute phase up to about three months or more after your accident. The major objectives are physical and functional recovery in order to resume your everyday life activities as well as a return to the workplace.

The multidisciplinary aspect means a team of health professionals who provide a series of comprehensive treatments to better manage your condition. Each therapist represents their own specialty and implements, independently, an intervention plan with specific goals.

In the case of chronic pain condition (three months after the accident and more), a second-line interdisciplinary program may be relevant according to your condition and your job’s requirements. Interdisciplinarity stands out by sharing responsibilities between each profession and including common objectives.

CARE PROVIDED BY THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM:

Please keep in mind that these definitions apply to a rehabilitation context after a work-related injury. Please refer to the Canadian or Quebec associations of these corresponding professions for more details.

CNESST/SAAQ Physicians: They are general physicians who basically know more about the laws of CNESST and the SAAQ. The general physician is at the core of your file, which means, that this medical practioner is in charge of creating a personalized comprehensive treatment plan and may prescribe medications, tests, medical and rehabilitation treatments, equipments, orthotics, etc.

Physiotherapy: A physiotherapist takes care of your condition through modalities for pain management, manual interventions and active exercises to increase your mobility and strength.

Occupational Therapy: The occupational therapist also works to increase your physical abilities (mobility, strength and endurance) through activities. However, the focus is on simulating your daily activities as well as your home and work duties. Adjusting activities and postural hygiene is also discussed.

Osteopathy: Using manual therapy, osteopaths take care of your pain and increase your musculoskeletal mobility. They evaluate and treat your condition as a whole body approach, in  a broader way than your local diagnosis.

Acupuncture: The acupuncturist stimulates energy points on your body to manage your pain and provide you wellness to promote recovery. Multiple methods and techniques are used such as fine disposable needles, suction cups, heat, etc.

Hydrotherapy: This therapeutic modality is used by the physiotherapist or the occupational therapist. The water allows a person to move with ease as it provides support for the joints and helps build strength through water resistance.

Psychology: The psychologist focuses on psychological and emotional well-being. They listen to your needs and support you all along in your process of introspection. A structured intervention is also available for the management of post-traumatic stress disorder.
